He's Almost a Month Old Already

It's hard to believe that Caden will be a month old on Friday. He's been home with us for a week and a half now and we are falling into a nice routine.

Dr Appointments -- Last Tuesday we had his follow-up appointment with his pediatrician. She says that he is doing great. He weighed 6lbs, 4ozs. On Friday, we met with the lactation consultant to work on nursing and he was already up to 6lbs, 7ozs. Then today we were back at the pediatrician for a bump on his neck and he weighed 6lbs, 12oz -- it's obvious now why the nurses in the NICU called him "Hoover". The place in his neck is a calcification of a bruise that he probably sustained during birth. We are being referred to a physical therapist to work on exercises so that when the calcification resolves itself that he won't have issues with the muscle shortening and causing his head to tilt to one side. While this sounded very concerning to us at first, the Dr said that she sees at least one patient a week with this issue. It's very fixable and nothing to worry about. The fact that Caden has no issues looking that direction is also in our favor.

Sleeping -- Mommy and daddy are very happy to report that Caden is sleeping for 3 hour stretches at night. To someone without small children it might seem odd to be happy about 3 hours, but it is such an improvement from the hour or so we were getting those first few nights. Our nighly routine includes a bottle, a clean diaper and being wrapped like a little burrito before being placed in his bassinet with his binkie.

Visitors -- Caden has been enjoying meeting all of his visitors. He's now met the neighbors, some of mommy and daddy's friends and just this weekend he met his Uncle Rob and Cousin Whitney, plus got to see his crazy Aunt Michelle again. This weekend he'll get to meet his Grandpa and Grandma Miller.

Sports -- Caden is quite the little football fan just like his daddy. On the 13th they watched their first Husker game together. This last weekend Caden put on his Bears gear to watch NFL football with daddy.

We had a wonderful visit with Caden. He is a precious little boy. Tears were shed when we had to leave to come back home. For those who haven't, you definitely need to meet him. We love him to death.
